Secrets of a Kept Woman 2 - Book Review

Secrets of a Kept Woman 2

The girls are back, well almost all of them. We are more centered on Shayla and what her life has become since her split with Titus and Lissa who is her best friend, now. And I got to say, she really ended up on top and was really showing it at the beginning of the books. On this trail of finding herself, she went back to school and is a doctor. I ...

A Thousand Miles

Thanksgiving is a few days away. I’ll spend it with my husband, calling our kids who live too far away to visit, remembering our mothers who have left this world. Neither Terry’s nor my mother lived to enjoy this day, but we did. And we remember and give thanks for the good times when my mother was healthy and his mother still had a steel-trap memory. We forget the bad times when my mother was dying from lung cancer and his mother slipping into dementia.

For years, the two mommies, Terry and I celebrated a string of wonderful days. Mother’s Day, within a week of my mother’s birthday. His mother’s birthday in September. Our wedding anniversary on May 11. We joined together in a group celebration with presents for each special day.

Review - A Sip of Fear, by Brian Rush

A Sip of Fear, by Brian Rush, is a sort of contemporary urban fantasy set on the streets of Seattle. The year is deliberately unspecified, but you can easily imagine the events playing out today anywhere in the world. Having briefly lived in Seattle, part of the charm for me was the occasional sense of recognition of the places visited.

However, the appeal of the book goes well beyond that. A Sip of Fear explores issues of spirituality and humanity, life and death, good and evil, and how these motivate men and women in rather different ways. Readers of Brian's blog will not be surprised, since these are matters he likes to explore. So there are occasional magical conflicts, but these are brief, and secondary to the main theme - human growth and development, on both the personal and collective fronts.

Author interview - Suzanne Adair

Today I am welcoming Suzanne Adair to an author interview. I first came across Suzanne's writing at the end of last year, and have been getting more familiar with it since. I have previously reviewed Hostage to Heritage and Camp Follower.

She writes about the American War of Independence, so an interview for July 4th seemed perfect!

Review - Chasm Creek, by Patricia Grady Cox

Written as one of “The Review Group” Review Volunteers, see http://thereview2014.blogspot.co.uk

It is a very long time since I read a Western. Back in school we had Shane as a class book, and from the same era (and I'm showing my age here) I was a keen watcher of the two television series The Virginian and The High Chaparral. But since those long-ago days I think I have only encountered the Western genre in films. To this British reader, coming across placenames like Rio Verde or Yuma evokes a feeling of going into a fantasy land, where anything might happen.

You and I Forever by Melissa Toppen - Book Review

My favorite series coming to a happy ending. Anna and Bentley have been through a whirlwind of emotions. From fighting their urges to leaving everything on the field these two have come across the final step in their relationship: acceptance. Accepting that love really can conquer all and guide you to places they both didn't think possible. I have loved this story from the stripper pole to the soccer field and what these two have in store for you in You and I Forever was more that I could ever have imagined.

The start of this book had me confused and thinking I was missing something, but once you catch up with you see that these two were preparing for a future and one of them didn’t know it. One of the hiccups in their relationship was really not a bad one, but one that was going to be a hurdle. Bentley and Anna met in a strip club she continued dancing even when they were building a relationship. Now, the moment of truth comes in and love enters the equation where Bentley gives Anna the ultimatum. I kind of saw it coming but for me, was one of the one questions I had in my head. Second favorite part in the book for me.

Breathless 2 by Shani Greene - Dowdell - Book Review

Yes, they are back and right where you left them in the previous book. So it’s only befitting that this book is called Breathless 2 by Shani Greene-Dowdell. I actually really liked this book because it kept me on edge the entire time I was reading it. It had its moment where I was wondering what was really going on each of these characters mind. I was actually surprised about how well everything felt so balanced while leaving me gasping for air. My boyfriend was literally checking on me every second because I was yelling, screaming, and crying. This book had it all and definitely surpassed its former predecessor.

Once you dive into the book, all of your questions are answered as you find out where all the character landed after Justine held Destiny at gunpoint. With Jacob realizing he was tricked, he makes emergency phone calls to protect his lady love. When the situation plays out, you see Destiny in the hospital opening up her eyes with Jacob nowhere in sight. Destiny’s mom and her ex-husband, Montie made sure Jacob wasn’t even allowed to see her.

Promotion Angling

I had some cards produced for my book signing at Fiction Addiction on July 3. It is all part of the promotion game.

Indie/Self-publishing is a wonderful thing. It isn’t as new as you might think. L. Frank Baum self-published “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. Of course, back in the year 1900, publishing required a press. Baum contracted the George M. Hill Company to print the pages and hand-assembled the first copy himself, and probably many others I expect. These days, with Print-On-Demand and E-Book services, self-publishing has become a lot easier with respect to the production of the print itself.

You and I Together by Melissa Toppen - Book Review

This book had a way of testing the ultimate from my favorite couple. Anna and Bentley are back and this time, we are testing this couple's resilience. If you haven't read the first book, go ahead and stop by the book listing to get you and I Alone. In You and I Together, you get to see Anna and Bentley come together as a couple. You see the joys that Bentley gives Anna on a daily basis, while also proving to Anna how much he loves her. Anna was a joy as well because you really do see her evolving into this person who does not want to live without Bentley in her life. I found this book to be an awesome sequel to the first book and found some things in this book that made me laugh, cry, and think about the work you put into building a relationship.

The one thing that became open up to us was the insight into some of the friends and family of Anna and Bentley. In Anna's world, you get to see Lo and Andrea. These two really put a spin in Anna's world and made her see that Bentley could actually be good for and that she shouldn't deny what she's feeling just because she's afraid. Bentley's world was a little hard to crack, but once you get through you are introduced to Shira and Ethan.

Processing Process

(Admin suggested I put this up as a blog post.  This was originally posted on my personal blog, blogyinyang.com, on April 22, 2015.)

Everything we do has a process. How you get ready for work. How you cook a meal. How you get dressed. Your process may not be like mine, or anyone else’s. In “All in the Family” Archie debated with Michael sock, sock, shoe, shoe, while Michael preferred sock, shoe, sock, shoe. We all have a process. For me it is sock, sock, pants, shoe, shoe. That way I don’t have to roll up my pants to put on my socks and shoes, and then roll down my pant legs, possibly rolling down my socks.

The Gilded Cuff by Lauren Smith - Book Review

I have never read a story that involved BDSM, so when this author sent me her book. I felt intrigued to know what the big fuss was about. This book was oddly cool because it introduced you to this life of these two people with them having these feeling of love and then it took you into this dominant and submissive role that these characters played. Lauren Smith also made it into criminal mystery and to me, I felt like it was the trifecta of a really good read. So be prepared for one heck of ride in this book, The Gilded Cuff by Lauren Smith.
The author waste no time diving you headfirst into this lifestyle as you meet Sophie who is new to this game and you are introduced to this club called the Gilded Cuff. Sophie is not here for fun at all, but actually for a purpose of finding one man. But don’t think she wasn’t curious because she was. Only because her lack in the touch of the male species has let her down. Deep down she wanted to know how that felt. By a stroke of good luck, she finds the man she is looking for and their connection starts with a game.

Done editing,

At least as far as I can do on my own, this was a very weird novella to finish. It started out as two seperate novelettes that kind of shared the same main character. Then I merged the two together. Finally I added a bunch of side stories that ended up twice as long as the actual main plot. So I merged chapters 4 and 6, and 8 and 10. Then the finall half ended up being shorter than the first half, and become more of a sequel short story.
