Is the Indie world headed for a literary Armaddeon?

There are titans vying for control and Indie authors are like the David's of our time. The titans don't go by the names of HarperCollins or Penguin Random House. Those folks are still in shock that we dared to, with the help of Amazon and Smashwords, come forth like a dark horse and break every fence that exists with the e-book phenomena, but they may have the last laugh. Anything that builds too fast can have weak legs and the sheer weight may bring it tumbling down.

Thousands of writers have been walking in the desert for years with no home for their novels. Finally, they had a mechanism to share their hard work that had been shunned by the old guard. Even insightful authors who wrote for big houses saw the opportunity. They took their backlists and tried again in the new frontier. Their fans followed. No more waiting two years for a book to be presented into the hands of their readers, and the authors earned most of the marbles.

Uptown Princess by Quiana - Book Review

So this book automatically introduces you to all the characters.  Well, at least the main characters.  Princess and Kia are at a club living it up for the last time and are being eyed by this cat named Mace.  He automatically has a thing for Princess and you can just see it or read it. On the outside,  Mace is the perfect gentleman.  Princess, in turn feels it too and what started in the club seems like its going to be a long term thing.  I read this and thought it was going to be your typical love story because these two characters moved really fast as far as the progression of a relationship.  You get to see how strong the bond between the two cousins are when you see Kia leaving for college and leaving Princess there for the first time in years.  When Mace and Kia have left, she ends up turning to her ex for attention.  She does feel guilty, but that moment quickly passes in her mind.  Princess finally get the phone she has been waiting for and goes to see Mace where he dumps a trip
to Las Vegas in her lap.

How have you fallen O Lucifer....

Mephistôpheles pointed at the planet below them. "We've traveled the world in vehicles just like this since the beginning. We have many disciples of other cultures and races that you cannot fracking imagine; they've built wondrous monuments to us and landing fields to worship our magnificence. Many are primitive and we wonder them with our presence; but to you and only you, god give this whole earth to – to subdue them and all those that draw fracking breath.

"We've never been interested in revealing ourselves to the naive until our god rules the battlefield called earth de facto. Though many have seen us traveling their skies, they'll never discern the truth of us – this is the greatest secret you must keep by any means necessary. They must never know who we really are – ever.

JUST WHAT THE GREAT PHYSICIAN ORDERED

"I had been in somewhat of a spiritual slump when I was asked to review Shh...God's Trying to Tell You Something: Speak Lord, I'm Listening, the new devotional journal by Christian author Shearon Hurst. Well, it was just what the Great Physician ordered to heal me from the blues and rekindle my passion to perform God's work and will.

In a voice that is divinely inspired, Shearon writes a daily love letter from God, cites spot-on Scriptures, and then leaves room for readers to write how they can become better obedient to His word and thereby receive the blessings that were designed just for them.

Groupies Inc by Kayenne - Book Review

It's a quickie alright, as in it is a short read.  This book is for people who want fast story to hold them over or just don't like read long stories.  I already like this book, because it's the only book that puts the scene in Texas. Mercedes and Kandi have an organization called Groupies Inc and they each have their own preference of guys they target for this website.

What is it?You may be asking yourself.  Well, it's a website that keeps tracks of celebrity and what they prefer in the bedroom and different cities they would be in for other groupies to get on it as well.  Mercedes is a firecracker who is not only confident in herself but know how to handle her money.  Calvin aka C-bone is her current target and you see that Mercedez could have had a thing for him, but Calvin played a player role from the start.  Later on,  you see that Calvin was actually really feeling her a lot.  Along the way, you meet Coco and Tasha, a few of Mercedez friends that are also apart of this incorporation except Tasha is a little inexperienced.

Stealing Candy by Allison Hobbs - Book Review

Allison Hobbs got me with this book and when I say got me, I was in shock and awe at the very first page. She took the stories of these three girls and took me through a very dreary story of what happens when you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. To me this story was very dark with hint of hope as you see Gianna's character not just be the first victim but for me the main character of this story because you saw her at her best as well as at her worst.

You meet Gianna at the start of this book trying to escape from her captor, Bullet.  Side note though, I don't hate his character because he wants to snatch girls, I couldn't stand his character because of his innate stupidity.   When Gianna does escape, you would think that she would find help somewhere, but it turns out that NOBODY helps her or sees the danger that she is in.  When Bullet does capture her he takes her back and thus from here the story of Stealing Candy begins.

Fancy by Vanna B - Book Review

From the start this character's name is Fancy.  There is a reason behind her nickname and why it stuck it with her. You see this young girl who looks like she has everything going for her.  She has friends, nice clothes, looks very comfortable in her curvaceous body and brings the confidence right along with it.  But underneath that exterior is a woman with a hurt past and a more hurtful presents.  I like to introduce you all to Maribel.  A twenty nine year old who was breaking her back trying to be her nickname, Fancy.  She didn't get like this on her own, her whole mindset by a young cat named Shawn who ended up becoming her best friend.

So fast forward to now and Fancy is living it up with three friends every night and taking the bus home right after.  No one, not even her best friends know the truth about her until she comes across Aaron. When you first meet Aaron, he honestly sounds like a genuine guy.  He accepts all of her and their relationship moves pretty fast.  Everything seems well until Fancy sees his real colors and ends up right back where she doesn't want to be.  Through this downfall, she found her best friend Shawn who helps Fancy get back on her feet.

Afterburn by Zane - Book Review

I read this book back in college, but as I was sifting through the books that I wanted to read it again, my mind automatically went to this book.  Besides Ashley and Jaquavis, Zane has been my favorite author for a very long time and this book was the first time I read something different in a love story that wasn't linked to the drug game.  This book made me believe in love again and had me in tears each time.  From the start, you meet the character of Rayne way back in the teenage days and you basically see her family and friend settings and just how she is living and its ok but it could be better.  Because of Rayne's mother, Rayne grew up quick and put up with a lot of things but she stayed true to herself.  To me, she sounded like a typical girl with that best friend and that high school crush on boys well at least one.

Still in the teenage days, you meet the main character Yardley and his boys Dwayne, Felix, and Mike.  You actually meet them at a time where Yardley is still a virgin which I found interesting because no book I have read has really took it back the far, but I see why.

Stories to Excite You by Ken Divine & Anna Forrest- Book Review

Now, I have always loved my short stories by Zane and she will always be the queen in my eyes.  This book holds a close second to me though because it was just as erotic and proably more raunchy than just about any book that I read.  It had boldness, sex appeal, all mixed in with just the right amount of love to make each story in this book come to life as if it was really happening.  I just had one question for these authors.  Where do they live so that I can move into this complex community.   There were a lot of short stories in this book that I am not going to name them all.  You are just going to have to read the stories and see for yourself how good of a book this is, but here are some of my favorite reads from this book.

Jackie:  if you have real feelings for someone, don't let the moment pass you by.

Sow Her Oats, Plant His Seeds:  Secrets, secrets and what do you know more secrets.

Birthday Celebration: She got a birthday to remember.  I was jealous

Sellout - Book Review

You meet the characters in this book while they are coming out of relationships that ended horribly. Their relationships start with dating a person that is same race.  Tammy is through with black men altogether and for good reason.  She was the type of woman who looked past a man's demeanor and just fell in love with the man. Terrell is a genuinely nice guy who respects the gentleman's code, but when it comes to his racist girl, Tasha.  He just can't win so they break up and Terrell starts to think that he could have been missing out on something on the lighter side of life.  Now Penelope on the other hand is having no trouble in the relationship area because she is not in one, but you do see her reason why she loves black men and I got to say, it's very true.  I wasn't even going to argue with her about that.

Fast forward to nine months later and Tammy has done a complete move for a change of scenery.  Still swearing off men all together except for one.  She gets a phone call from her Mika with some bad news.  Terrell is loving the whole date outside his race things and I can't blame him.  After Tasha, I could see why.  You also see how each of these characters start to become connected to one another.

His Wicked Seduction - Book Review

This book starts off with a little rule and newspaper section, but before you decide to put this book down, continue reading it gets better.  You meet this guy named Lucien and he is mad stalking this young lady named Horatia.  I don't know whether it's lust or love but he definitely has a thing for her, but for some reason, he can't have her.  He finally gets a chance to catch up to her and right when you think he gets that chance a carriage comes straight for him causing Lucien to save Horatia's life.  Him and his friend Charles decide to escort her home after the incident.  You also get an explanation of why these gentleman are called the league of rogues, but there is a deeper meaning behind their bond or friendship as well.  Cedric invites the league over after the incident and a reluctant Lucien ends ups going.  After the dinner,  you see some released tension followed by the typical man opening his mouth and saying something really stupid.  Lucien knows what he did was wrong and decides to make it up to her.  Charles catches wind of Lucien being up to something and rather just tell him the truth, Lucien kind of half lies just to get to defend this whole second rule amongst the league.  Charles see right through him, though.

The Sisters of APF - Book Reviews

Holy heck in a jar!  All I want to know is where was this sorority when I was in college?  Don't get me wrong I loved my college years, but this book right here had me wondering if it was even real.    In this book you meet a young woman who leaves her country town and heads to college.  When she get there, she learns more about herself when it comes to knowing what she wants sexually.  Along the way, you meet a few characters that not just upgrade the life of this young girl, but show her there is more to sexual freedom than just thinking about it.  So sit back and relax because this book is going to be one book that you will probably finish in a day, yes, it's that good.

If you have read any of the stories in Zane Sex Chronicles: Shattering the myth then you should know that APF is one of the stories.  What I love about this author is she took her stories from her short stories and made them bigger.  You are introduced to Mary Ann who has achieved a scholarship to a college and has the chance of leaving her country town for a higher education.  It's not that she is running away because she loves her huge family, but you see that she knows that she has a higher calling.

Zane's Nervous - Book Review

Yes, another Zane book.  You're right another one of her heart stopping, stomach clenching, hand clapping book.  I put this as another one of her legendary books that she wrote a long time ago.  I just don't think it gets enough credit where credit is due.  Next to the sorority, this book was another one that was pulled out of her infamous book Zane Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth.  I got to say, if she ever wants to pull from any more stories, feel free.  I will be the first one reading them.

This book takes us into the life of Jonquinette, Jon for short and she is suffering from dissociative identity disorder with a twist. If you read the excerpt at the beginning of the book, then you know what I mean.  You start off meeting Jon and see that she is a timid little thing who really keeps to herself.

Blood Moon on the Rise - Book Review

You are introduced to Tamara who is a special kind of hunter and let's just say that this woman is tough.  She has been through some stuff to get where she is at right now,  which is in a bar hunting for a man.  No, not that kind of hunting for a man.  She is looking for a werewolf in particular and on this night she is in the right place at the right time.  You see Tamara kind of breakdown a little bit when you she starts fantasizing about the one that got away.  She quickly comes back to her senses and you get a glimpse of what her type of job entails as far as her likes and dislikes in keeping humanity protected.  On her current job she finally get the werewolf she is looking for, but things start to stop going as it was planned and Tamara ends up have to wing it.  Luckily her friend Nicholas shows up just a little late and then you find out the connection between these two, but you don't really know why she has to keep her distance.  Later on you learn not just why Tamara has these mental fantasies and doesn't act on them.  Her and Nicholas are a part of an order that track and hunts werewolves and vampires.  I started to see the pain the Tamara goes through with shutting off her feelings, but I think it went both ways and we are just seeing it from a female sense. The history between these two was actually really sweet and I felt for them a little bit because they both wanted to be together forever, but they both knew that wasn't the case being in the Brotherhood.

Street Divas - Book Review

After reading the first book, I honestly didn't think there was any more of the story. I thought that was the end and the people who fought so hard to be together were just shattered because of street politics. But that isn't the case. The second book picks up where the first book left off and it starts off pretty gruesome. Let's be real, Melanie was the type of character who you knew who would get what they got coming to her. If you read the first book (which I highly recommend), then you would know her story. Once again, the only thing that pulls me in is the back stories for the different characters. I really believe that the way the author set the story up that the back or past stories will define who these characters are. This goes well for people like Momma Peaches and Lucifer. Meanwhile, a miracle happens and Tashara has officially lost it and after what she goes through, losing it is what she needed. Python and Leshelle are still the crazy King and Queen of shotgun row and because of Leshelle's loyalty to him she get or rather hears her ultimate reward.
